Fear Profiteers

Electronic cigarettes have been a blessing for many smokers who after many failed attempts to quit have found a means to reduce or entirely eliminate their exposure to the harmful aspects of combustible tobacco. Although research has yet to identify specific long-term health risks, scientists are coming to the same conclusion—e-cig use is a far safer alternative than smoking.  Despite the evidence, public perception of e-cig safety has declined, while demands for stricter regulation and bans have gradually intensified. That the public’s perception of vaping diverts so radically from scientific evidence leads us to believe this may be an intended result of an organized disinformation campaign.

How e-Cigarette Panic Benefits Health Activists

Michelle Minton, 12/5/2018

By scaring consumers about the unknown risks of vaping, generating panic that e-cigarettes attract children, and using government to strip away any advantage non-combustible nicotine products may have over cigarettes, anti-smoking advocates are making it much more difficult for smokers to quit. Some have been surprisingly frank about their willingness to sacrifice adult smokers to protect adolescents from the unknown risks posed by e-cigarettes. In a September 2018 statement, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb admitted that his agency “may have to narrow the off-ramp for adults, to close the on-ramp for kids.”

Cardiologists Lash Out At Misguided Information Condemning Ecigs

Jimmy Hafrey, 7/22/2014

Last week, the BMA Occupational Medicine Committee released an article claiming that the safety of e-cigarettes is yet to be proven. World renowned cardiologists Konstantinos Farsalinos and Riccardo Polosa responded with a complete rebuttal, claiming that scientific evidence abounds and “clearly indicates e-cigarettes are considerably less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.” In their response, the doctors made an appeal to the medical community to examine the actual scientific evidence rather than giving vague and misguided statements that would scare the public away from using e-cigarettes.
